Today I bought the music notation software Dorico 3.5 from Steinberg. Until now I worked with Notion 6 from Presonus, which is a good starting software tool for music notation. But in the end I failed to insert nested tuplets, which was the reason to search for another more professional software.
Similar to the professional software from Finale or Sibelius the Dorico 3.5 software is more expensive than Notion 6. But the reviews in some forums and blog posts affirmed me to buy Dorico 3.5.
Installation
The installation was absolutely annoying. First I had to install the Steinberg Download Assistant to install the software. And in the further process there where many pitfalls and UX bugs that left me with doubt, if the installation successfully works. But in the end I did it! Hopefully Steinberg will improve the installation routine for upcoming users.
First steps
There is a lot of really good documentation for Dorico 3.5. So it’s easy to see good results in very little time. What really is fantastic is the possibility to enter notes just by using the keyboard. And the most missing feature – at least as I am concerned – is also quite easy to handle: entering n-tuplets and also entering nested tuplets! This is really easy to to. I am looking forward to find more interesting features of Dorico.
